Bring a Photo, Light a Candle: Al's Hideaway Joins the Day of the Dead Trail

The pavilion's been busy this week — not with a wedding or a rally, but with boxes of marigolds and strings of papel picado waiting to go up. Fall's bringing something new to Al's Hideaway this year, and we wanted you to hear about it from us first.
We're Part of San Antonio's Day of the Dead Trail This Fall
From October 5 through November 5, Al's Hideaway is honored to take part in Visit San Antonio's Day of the Dead Trail, joining businesses across the Hill Country and the Alamo City in honoring one of the most meaningful traditions in Texas. We're decorating our pavilion with marigolds, papel picado, and candlelight, and setting up a community ofrenda — an altar where guests and visitors alike are welcome to bring a photo of a loved one, a favorite keepsake, or anything else that carries their memory, and add it to the display.
It's a simple thing, but it means something. Día de los Muertos isn't about mourning — it's about remembering, out loud and in color, the people who shaped us. If there's someone you'd like to honor, bring their picture along on your stay. If you just want to see what neighbors and fellow travelers have added, come take a look and sit a while. Either way, the pavilion's open to you.

A Bigger Celebration Just Down the Road
Our little corner of it is part of something much bigger. San Antonio's Día de los Muertos season runs through early November downtown, with the River Walk's Tradition Trail lighting up the water with towering catrinas and larger-than-life alebrijes, Muertos Fest bringing live music and the city's largest open altar exhibition, and the Day of the Dead River Parade taking over the River Walk on October 24. It's one of the largest Día de los Muertos celebrations in the country, and it's about 40 minutes from our front gate.
