San Antonio has the Alamo, the River Walk, world-class food and thousands of hotel rooms. What it does not have is quiet. Al's Hideaway is where San Antonians and visitors go when they want the Hill Country instead: 13 handcrafted log cabins, 10 full-hookup RV sites and 9 cowboy campsites on 20 acres in Pipe Creek, about 45 minutes from downtown.
We are not a hotel, and that is the point. There are no hallways or parking-lot views: two creeks, a pool, wildlife, and one of the darkest sky corridors in Central Texas. Jennifer and Gordon, the owners, are both certified San Antonio Hospitality Champions through Visit San Antonio, so we take being a great host to San Antonio's visitors seriously.
San Antonio Hotel or Hill Country Cabin?
How staying in the city compares with staying out here.
| Option | What you get | Best for / trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel in San Antonio | A room in or near downtown, with the River Walk, dining and attractions close by | Best when you are on a packed city itinerary with no car. City rates, city noise, and limited room for pets |
| Vacation rental in the city | An apartment or house, often in a neighborhood | Good for groups. Parking, house rules and cleaning fees vary |
| RV park near San Antonio | A pad with hookups, often near the highway | Fine for a night; check shade, spacing and whether it feels like a getaway |
| Al's Hideaway | 13 handcrafted log cabins (four one-bedroom cabins have full kitchens), 10 full-hookup RV sites, 9 cowboy campsites — on 20 acres with a pool and two creeks | Families, couples, dog owners, RVers and groups who want space and quiet. Not walkable to a town center; you drive in (about 45 minutes from downtown San Antonio) |

Plan a Day in San Antonio, Then Come Home to the Hill Country
Many guests split their stay: a day in San Antonio (Visit San Antonio's trip planner is a great place to start), then back to the ranch for the pool, the creeks and the stars. In winter, see our Christmas lights and parades guide for Boerne, Bandera and San Antonio events.
Bandera's Main Street, scenic drives, horseback riding and river tubing are all closer to us than to the city. See the full Hill Country area guide.

Hot Meals, Specialty Coffee & Clean Energy Drinks On Site
A big city is exciting and it is loud: traffic, car horns, sirens. Our on-site store serves hot meals, and the Al's Hideaway Energy & Drink Bar is now open, making specialty coffee, espresso drinks and cold brew, plus clean energy drinks made with premium Monin flavors and sugar-free options. You can eat, sip and stock up without getting back in the car.
Why drive for morning coffee and breakfast when it is already here? Take a short walk to the store and listen to the birds along the way.
Then unplug. After a day of exploring there is no traffic to sit in, no car horns and no sirens — just the creeks, the pool, the quiet, and a sky full of stars. It is a place to actually relax and recharge.
